The Latest Trends in Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation surgery has come a long way over the last few decades. While it used to be fairly obvious if someone had a ‘boob job,’ a great many advancements in techniques and tools have given women some of the most natural and realistic enhancements options ever possible. Here are a few of the latest breast augmentation trends we’re offering women at our Mechanicsburg practice.

It’s All About Natural Results

Just about every innovation related to breast augmentation has been focused on making the results feel just like natural breast tissue – and recent improvements in implants have done just that. With the introduction of the fifth generation of silicone implants, dubbed “gummy bear” implants (the term “gummy bear” isn’t technically what manufacturers call them, but a name given to them by a plastic surgeon), breast implants have never felt so authentic. These highly cohesive silicone gel implants are more stable than their predecessors and offer a firm yet flexible consistency that looks and feels natural and doesn’t lose its shape over time. These cohesive silicone gel implants also greatly reduce the risk of complications and patients tend to realize their final outcome quicker as well. With benefits like those, it’s no wonder that “gummy bear” implants have surged in popularity over the past few years.

Bigger Isn’t Always Better

While a natural feel is important to women these days, a natural shape and appearance is just as critical. Gone are the days of over-the-top breast implants just for the sake of a large bust. We’re now seeing more and more women opting for smaller implants to fill out their breasts instead of going for the biggest ones they possibly can. Overly large implants can look out of place on smaller frames and may even lead to physical issues like back, neck, and shoulder pain. Implants that are appropriate to your figure will look the most natural without putting your body under unnecessary stress, and they’ll leave everyone wondering, “Did she or didn’t she?”

Above or Below

Implant placement also plays a big role in how your augmented breasts will look and feel. The thickness of the tissue in the upper part of the breast will determine whether the implant should be placed above the chest muscle and under the breast tissue, known as a subglandular placement, or partially underneath the muscle, known as submuscular placement. Many women prefer that their implants be positioned underneath the pectoral muscle whenever possible, since they are known to feel a bit more natural, and also may not interfere as much with mammograms and breast feeding.
